Lancia Texturing

Today I have been working on texturing some of the front details of the car. I have really tried to push my knowledge and spent a great deal of time learning about creating good glass effects and utilizing normal maps to create fine detail without the extra polygons.

After a large amount of experimentation and frustrating failures I have started to get my head around using these techniques to achieve some great results. I'm really pleased with the progress I am making, both with this model and my general technical ability.

Next on the to do list:
  • Texture the remaining lights on the front and back of the car
  • Re-texture the main grill to bring it up to a higher standard
  • Model in some basic seats to give some shape and silhouette inside the car
  • Add detail areas such as the front badges and license plates
  • Model the exhaust
  • Begin building dirt track road and forest environment

Lancia II

Here is an updated render of my car modelling. I've now finished the majority of the modelling and have begun working with the materials. I have been experimenting with the windows trying to get a nice balance between opacity, tint and reflection.

My next task is to unwrap the model and start texturing.

Lancia Delta modelling

Here's a screen grab for my current modelling project. It's a Lancia Delta Intergrale that was also used a a rally car. I found the look and shape of the car quite appealing.

My plan is to finish building the car and then texture it in it's rally colours and decals covered in mud to give my texturing skills some practice. I also have the intention of building a dirt road in a forest setting to try out some organic modelling such as trees and shrubs.

In Memory Design

I spent a lot of time researching movement and motion on a bicycle.

I kept the design style simple and angular to create bold dramatic spaces with a strong use of colour. I wanted a grey mournful tone with this vivid splash of green in the high vis jacket that would slowly fade to a grey and white ending.

In Memory Concept

This is the article that originally inspired my animation. The image was so striking and powerful that it immediately started creating images and narratives in my mind.

Below is my final colour storyboard created from both my original storyboard sketches and shots from my animatic. As you can see some things are exactly as I intended and some parts were dropped. There was an idea for the use of the seasons changing to show the long passage of time which I decided not to use and opted for something still keeping the cyclist around and having him pick up and drop some flowers.

The last image of this post shows a mood board of some of the images, posters, and pictures that helped shape my project.

In Memory 2011

This is my final year project from university. I recently found someone who offered to create some originally audio music for the animation. Together we have put together a completely original piece of work that I can finally call finished.

The animation is inspired by an article about ghost bikes. All across the world people now create these unique memorials to remember those who have died whilst cycling. A completely white bike is placed at the area they died as both a memorial and a warning to motorists to remember to watch out for cyclists on the road.

I cycle on busy roads everyday and the article really spoke to me and inspired me to create a narrative based around those visuals of a white bike.

The animation shows one cyclists final journey.

Lou Digital Painting

Here I have been following some tutorials on making some brushes for hair and skin. Thought I would give them a try and draw my sister's portrait. Reasonably pleased for a first digital portrait painting. Lots of room for improvement.
