I've started attending a new life drawing class which I'm hoping to make a weekly routine. It's been a while since I've done any life drawing so there's a lot of stiffness in the lines. These were only drawn with a 2B pencil on A3 which limited how expressive I could be with the marks. I'm considering using a different medium next week to push my drawing style further.

Life Drawing with Charcoal
Here are some older charcoal studies from earlier in the year which I never got around to uploading. These were done on A2 allowing more room for expressive marks which can be difficult on a smaller size when using charcoal. Looking back at these, there are some nice sketches to come out of this session.

Colour By Numbers Dalek
Managed to get some good quality scans of my line work into photoshop. I've only started blocking out the colour to give me a base to work from as I paint over the top. I'm still unsure about the placement of the Dalek. I can't seem to place it correctly. I also intend to add a Zygon so that's going to require a lot of repositioning trying to get the elements arranged.

Day of the Doctor Poster Sketch
I thought I would celebrate the Doctor Who anniversary by making a poster for the new episode. The first image shows the A2 sketch but I wasn't sure if the Dalek in flames was working so I decided I would create a larger Dalek separately to add as a foreground element. This also hides the fact the Doctors look too short. I had some trouble with the proportions and kept reworking the legs. I eventually realised that the feet will probably be covered in the final piece so left them as they rather than waste anymore time.
I'm also considering making John Hurt's Doctor much larger but that will have to wait till tomorrow. It's unlikely I'll get this finished before the episode airs tomorrow evening but it's been fun doing some intensive drawing again.

Genesis of the Daleks poster work
I found some time to pick up a pencil and do some drawing this weekend. I've revisited this poster for Gensis of the Daleks. I'm still caught up in all the excitement for the upcoming Doctor Who 50th Anniversary this year. It would be great if I could produce a full series of posters covering some of my favorite episodes in time for the anniversary.
I had some inspiration for the poster layout when I was coming to end of my sketch work. I had a reference image of Davros' hand and realised it would be really menacing and creepy to have the hand enlarged looming over the poster. There's definitely some influence from 1950's science fiction posters coming through. It adds some great symbolism for Davros being the creator and controller of the Daleks. It also looks like he's moving the Dalek like a chess piece.
Davros still needs work as I just sketched in some of the areas late last night to give an idea of where I wanted to take it. I also have to include the Doctor. I may include the companions and I also have an idea for using the running soldiers along the bottom of the image to represent the war from the storyline.
