Modelling Portfolio

Lancia Delta HF

This is still a work in progress piece. I still want to add more foliage to the scene and there are a few bits on the car I feel could still be tweaked. I've been working on this model for a few months now and it's great to have it looking presentable.

Doctor Who Portrait

Acrylic / coloured pencils on canvas board 46 x 55 cm

Taking a break from the 3D modelling, here is a portrait painting I have been meaning to upload for a while. I painted it as a gift a few months ago but it also gave me a reason to create some art for a show I love.

David Tennant's Doctor has some of my favorite episodes so this painting was a pleasure to create.

I thought I would try using canvas board for a change with the goal of adding coloured pencil line work over the top of the paint. Unfortunately the pencils were difficult to apply so I couldn't get the detail I originally hoped for. They did a great job of adding the pin stripes to his suit, something I would have struggled to create with just paint and a tiny brush.

I'm really pleased with the final piece, this was my first portrait using acrylic paints and I hope I get a reason to do something like this again.

Lancia Environment

This evening I have been working on building the forest environment around my car. The above render shows it still looks very sparse. I'll have to create some different types of trees and bushes next to fill it out and give the car a lush deep location to sit proudly in.

Nettles

Some more foliage work, here is some nettles.

My next task is to create some bigger trees, create the complete floor texture and finally bring all of the foliage elements together.

Tree Texturing

I am now beginning to create to tree assets for my scene. This is my first attempts at making foliage props and I'm pleased with the result.

I had some issues getting Max to render the alpha channels on the leaves but I have managed to achieve the desired result.

Lancia Texturing II

I have been texturing some of the finer details of the car, adding the badges, wipers, and most recently the lower orange lights and grill. Whilst searching for reference images for the badges I found some better quality reference for the center grill so I went back and re-textured it.

The centre Lancia badge looks quite flat so I think I will build more of a 3d mesh rather than just projecting the image onto a single plane. It's a focus point of the front of the car so I think it should have a greater amount of detail. The 'HF' badge came out really well using a normal map so I would like the Lancia badge to be at the same quality.

I added a simple mud texture to ground the car and give it some weight. I can't wait to begin creating the full forest environment. There are just a few more areas I want to finish on the car first.

- Texture the square fog lights on the front
- Texture the back lights
- Build the exhaust

Eye Logo

This is a design for eye makeup and nail painting. It was tricky trying to combine the two very different images together. It gave me a chance to get some practice in drawing eyes. I also had some fun doing some creative doodles over the image.
